It's been heard that several new apartment buildings, a municipal plaza and other upgrades could come to Brampton’s Bramalea City Centre.

The Residential rental apartment is said to be brought up by The development company Morguard Corp. which intends to demolish part of the mall to make way for new apartment buildings, a parking garage and a whole host of new amenities.

The redevelopment project could include the demolition of the now-closed Sears department store in Bramalea town center to create space for four rental apartment buildings, a commercial building and an urban plaza for 1,000 new units and about 650 square meters of new commercial space, according to a proposal to the city.

The proposal also includes a two-storey underground parking structure which would accommodate 360 parking spaces, and the development would also share the shopping mall’s existing parking garage for a total target parking rate of approximately 0.7 parking spaces per unit.

Architects ARK-Petroff are leading the redesign of Bramalea’s town center for co-owners Morguard Corporation and BCC Equities Inc. and could align with the city’s plans to relocate Peel Center Drive and improve infrastructure within the Dixie Tributary, which is the runs down the western part of Bramalea the grounds of the mall.

The proposal is currently under review by the city’s planning and development department and would occupy approximately 3 acres of the mall’s 80 acres.
